Shaye Kendall is an aspiring Olympian swimmer. In just a few weeks she would leave for Stanford to start her freshman year with the help of a swimming scholarship, realizing a dream come true. Unfortunately, she arrives at her boyfriend's apartment one day, just in time to see the two men who murder the man she loves. Her whole life changes immediately. Her boyfriend is dead, her dreams of Stanford and the Olympics are gone, and she is put into the witness protection program with a different name and background. She is also unable to attend church or even tell anyone that she is LDS.
Then she meets Matt Whitmore. He is the son of a senator, an artist, an athlete and LDS. She can’t tell him who she is or that she also shares his same beliefs. Can you fall in love when you can’t be completely honest about who you are?
“Shaye walked slowly to a nearby bench and sat down. She couldn’t stop staring at herself in those sketches. When had Matt made them? Even in black and white, Shaye’s eyes looked haunted, as though Matt had seen right through her and drawn the real her, the person behind the fake identity.”
This is a enjoyable book. It has a good plot and is a fast read. I would have liked the ending to be a little different – I felt that it didn’t quite wrap up the story as well as I felt it could have. But it does have a good romance storyline, and the suspense will keep you going until the last page.
