Always & Forever by Candie Checketts, published by Covenant Communications Inc.

It's been more than a decade since Maren Griffin turned down Jake Jantzen's marriage proposal. Now, Maren and Jake have another chance at life and love. But they know the road ahead will not be easy.

Maren is still recovering from an abusive marriage to a volatile man who continues to want her back, and Jake's ex-wife has just abandoned her children for the second time. To add to their difficulties, one of Jake's children is violently opposed to the new marriage.

Yet, Maren and Jake are determined to make things work as they embark on a quest to blend their two families into one and to find healing from the past - but do the wounds run too deep? Always & Forever, the sequel to Another Chance is a compelling story that shows how love and faith can overcome even the most difficult obstacles.

This book is obviously a sequel to a previous novel and while some books are still good to read without reading the first one - I feel that with Always and Forever you need to read the first one first. I have not read Another Chance and although I was able to pick up on what was happening - a lot of background information was missing and I was quite confused in several places.

Now that I have given that disclaimer - I will also say that I enjoyed the romance of this book. The main characters were devoted to each other and committed to making their relationship work, in spite of everything conspiring against them. They had to communicate what they were actually thinking and overcome their own human flaws. If you have read the first book - I completly recommend this as a good finale to the story of Maren and Jake.
